However, you can simplify the process by creating a form that will update relations even on the front end. So let\u2019s find out how to do it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"connect-child-objects-to-parent\">Connect Child Objects to Parent Ones<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<p>The first form we build is for attaching already existing child posts to parent ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Begin by proceeding to <strong><em>JetEngine &gt; Forms<\/em><\/strong>. Push the \u201c<strong>Add New<\/strong>\u201d button to create a form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/crocoblock.com\/knowledge-base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/jetengine-forms-add-new-form-button-full.png\" alt=\"jetengine forms add new form\">\n\n\n\n<p>Initially, type in the title of the form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Hidden Field <\/strong>and <strong>Submit Button <\/strong>are created by default. We will leave them in the form as they are vital in our case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s check the <strong>Hidden Field <\/strong>settings. These should be left without changes as this field will be the source for the ID of a parent element.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Push the \u201c<strong>Apply Changes<\/strong>\u201d button to save the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/crocoblock.com\/knowledge-base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/form-for-relations-hidden-field-settings-full.png\" alt=\"form for relations hidden field settings\">\n\n\n\n<p>To place one more field into the form, click on the \u201c<strong>Add Field<\/strong>\u201d button.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new field will be placed right after the <strong>Submit Button <\/strong>as we didn\u2019t delete it. However, you can easily change the order of the fields by dragging the needed field and dropping it in the desired place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/crocoblock.com\/knowledge-base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/changing-the-order-of-the-fields-full.png\" alt=\"changing the order of the fields\">\n\n\n\n<p>The field we have added should display the list of related posts. So, you can use any field type that lets you make a list of the options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We will use the \u201cCheckboxes Field\u201d as a <strong>Type <\/strong>to pick several options that will be added as related once the form is submitted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Complete the <strong>Name<\/strong> of the field and add its <strong>Label <\/strong>and <strong>Description <\/strong>if desired.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"note-banner d-flex border-bold border-jetsmartfilters rounded overflow-hidden p-20\"><div class=\"mr-12\"><svg width=\"24\" height=\"24\" viewBox=\"0 0 24 24\" fill=\"none\" xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\"><path d=\"M1 21H23L12 2L1 21ZM13 18H11V16H13V18ZM13 14H11V10H13V14Z\" fill=\"#FA5450\"\/><\/svg><\/div><div class=\"d-flex flex-column\"><div class=\"text-900 mb-12\">Warning<\/div><p class=\"m-0\">The <strong>Name<\/strong> field should contain a value with only lowercase Latin letters, no spaces. If you want to split words, this can be done by using the \u201c-\u201d and \u201c_\u201d characters. In such a way, the information will be saved correctly in the database.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember to define whether the fields you create are obligatory by ticking the <strong>Required <\/strong>field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/crocoblock.com\/knowledge-base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/checkboxes-for-tours-field-settings-full.png\" alt=\"checkboxes for tours field settings\">\n\n\n\n<p>Select the \u201cPosts\u201d as the source in the <strong>Fill Options From <\/strong>field and define the needed <strong>Post Type<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since we will attach child posts to the parent objects, it\u2019s necessary to pick the Child object post type.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We skip the <strong>Value from meta field<\/strong> and the <strong>Calculated value from meta field<\/strong> as they are not needed for the form we create.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Check the following <strong>Custom item template <\/strong>field if you want to attach the custom template to the field and move to the <strong>Default <\/strong>field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Press the \u201c<strong>Dynamic tags<\/strong>\u201d button to open the pop-up with the additional settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/crocoblock.com\/knowledge-base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/checkboxes-dynamic-tags-for-default-value-full.png\" alt=\"checkboxes dynamic tags for the default value\">\n\n\n\n<p>There are several settings to adjust in the displayed pop-up:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/crocoblock.com\/knowledge-base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/checkboxes-default-field-dynamic-tags-pop-up-full.png\" alt=\"checkboxes default field dynamic tags pop-up\">\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Source <\/strong>\u2014 select the \u201cRelated items\u201d option;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>From Relation <\/strong>\u2014 define the <a href=\"https:\/\/crocoblock.com\/knowledge-base\/articles\/jetengine-how-to-create-relationships-between-posts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">relationship<\/a> you want to use as the source;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>From Object <\/strong>\u2014 choose the options of which object will be pulled, the parent or the child one;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Initial Object ID From <\/strong>\u2014 leave the default \u201cCurrent Object ID\u201d to pull the default information from the object ID.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Press the \u201c<strong>Done<\/strong>\u201d button to save the changes and adjust the following fields if desired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Enable the <strong>Add Prev Page Button <\/strong>if you have created the previous page, which will precede the page on which the form will be located.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Set the <strong>Field Visibility <\/strong>for users and place an additional <strong>Custom CSS Class <\/strong>to customize the style of the form if needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Click on the \u201c<strong>Apply Changes<\/strong>\u201d button once you are done with the field editing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/crocoblock.com\/knowledge-base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/additional-checkboxes-settings-full.png\" alt=\"additional checkboxes settings\">\n\n\n\n<p>Add the other fields if desired, and don\u2019t forget that you can adjust the <strong>Submit Button<\/strong>. Hit the \u201c<strong>Apply Changes<\/strong>\u201d button after making changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/crocoblock.com\/knowledge-base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/submit-button-settings-full.png\" alt=\"submit button settings\">\n\n\n\n<p>Move on to the <strong>Post-submit Actions \/ Notifications Settings <\/strong>tab. Click on the pencil-shaped icon next to the default <strong>Send Email<\/strong> action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/crocoblock.com\/knowledge-base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/form-notification-settings-full.png\" alt=\"form notification settings\">\n\n\n\n<p>Set the \u201cInsert\/Update Post\u201d option as the <strong>Type<\/strong> and select the post type you want to update via the form in the <strong>Post Type <\/strong>field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Select the needed <strong>Post Status <\/strong>or leave it empty. Also, leave the default <strong>Fields Map <\/strong>values.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As for the <strong>Default Fields<\/strong>, they<strong> <\/strong>are not needed in this case. So, once done, click on the \u201c<strong>Apply Changes<\/strong>\u201d button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/crocoblock.com\/knowledge-base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/checkboxes-insert-update-post-submit-action-full.png\" alt=\"checkboxes insert update post submit action\">\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s add one more post-submit action by hitting the \u201c<strong>Add Notification<\/strong>\u201d button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This time choose the \u201cConnect Relation Items\u201d as the <strong>Type <\/strong>and the relation you are working on in the <strong>Relation <\/strong>field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Select the created <strong>Hidden Field <\/strong>as the <strong>Parent Item ID <\/strong>and the field you have set for displaying the child object list as the <strong>Child Item ID<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pick the \u201cWe updating parent items for the child object\u201d in the <strong>Update Context <\/strong>drop-down menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Push the \u201c<strong>Apply Changes<\/strong>\u201d button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/crocoblock.com\/knowledge-base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/connect-relation-items-post-submit-action-full.png\" alt=\"connect relation items post submit action\">\n\n\n\n<p>Scroll down to the <strong>Messages Settings <\/strong>if you want to change some default notification messages shown to the user while completing the form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Save the changes by pushing the \u201c<strong>Publish<\/strong>\u201d button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/crocoblock.com\/knowledge-base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/jetengine-messages-settings-full.png\" alt=\"jetengine messages settings\">\n\n\n\n<p>To place the form on the parent object single page, head to <strong><em>WordPress Dashboard &gt; Crocoblock &gt; Theme Builder <\/em><\/strong>and push the \u201c<strong>Edit<\/strong>\u201d button on the needed single page. Or <a href=\"https:\/\/crocoblock.com\/knowledge-base\/articles\/creating-custom-post-type-archive-template-with-jetengine-listing-grid\/#title2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">create a new single template<\/a> by pressing the \u201c<strong>Add New<\/strong>\u201d button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/crocoblock.com\/knowledge-base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/crocoblock-theme-builder-list-full.png\" alt=\"crocoblock theme builder list\">\n\n\n\n<p>Place a <strong>Form <\/strong>widget on the page. Select the \u201cJetEngine\u201d option in the <strong>Choose Provider <\/strong>list and pick the newly created form in the <strong>Select form <\/strong>field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Feel free to customize the settings further. Change the <strong>Fields layout<\/strong>, <strong>Fields label HTML tag<\/strong>, <strong>Submit type,<\/strong> and <strong>Cache form output <\/strong>if desired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adjust the <strong>Style <\/strong>and <strong>Advanced <\/strong>tabs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Push the \u201c<strong>Update\/Publish<\/strong>\u201d button after implementing the changes and navigate to the post on the front end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/crocoblock.com\/knowledge-base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/child-object-options-form-in-elementor-full.png\" alt=\"child object options form in elementor\">\n\n\n\n<p>To reach the post, you can proceed to the post type and find the desired post. Click on the \u201c<strong>View<\/strong>\u201d button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/crocoblock.com\/knowledge-base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/view-button-of-the-post-full.png\" alt=\"view button of the post\">\n\n\n\n<p>The form is now displayed on the page. Since we have added the <strong>Checkboxes <\/strong>field as the selector for the posts, you can select as many posts as you need.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Click the \u201c<strong>Submit<\/strong>\u201d button and check if the selected posts are now related to the parent posts.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"note-banner d-flex border-bold border-jetsmartfilters rounded overflow-hidden p-20\"><div class=\"mr-12\"><svg width=\"24\" height=\"24\" viewBox=\"0 0 24 24\" fill=\"none\" xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\"><path d=\"M1 21H23L12 2L1 21ZM13 18H11V16H13V18ZM13 14H11V10H13V14Z\" fill=\"#FA5450\"\/><\/svg><\/div><div class=\"d-flex flex-column\"><div class=\"text-900 mb-12\">Warning<\/div><p class=\"m-0\">If some child posts are already related to the parent post, they will be ticked in the form placed on the parent post page. So, if you untick them, they will be disconnected from the parent post.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/crocoblock.com\/knowledge-base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/child-object-options-form-on-the-front-end-full.png\" alt=\"child object options form on the front end\">\n\n\n\n<p>Return to the post type page on the WordPress Dashboard and press the \u201c<strong>Edit<\/strong>\u201d button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/crocoblock.com\/knowledge-base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/edit-button-of-the-post-full.png\" alt=\"edit button of the post\">\n\n\n\n<p>Scroll down to the <strong>Children \u2026 <\/strong>tab. The options you have checked in the form will be added to the related posts list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/crocoblock.com\/knowledge-base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/new-related-children-items-added-to-the-post-full.png\" alt=\"new related children items added to the post\">\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"connect-child-objects-to-new-parent\">Connect Child Objects to New Parent Post<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<p>Now let\u2019s find out how to build a form that will make a new parent post and connect child objects to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Move to the <strong><em>WordPress Dashboard &gt; JetEngine &gt; Forms <\/em><\/strong>and press the \u201c<strong>Add New<\/strong>\u201d button to proceed to the editor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/crocoblock.com\/knowledge-base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/jetengine-forms-add-new-form-button-full.png\" alt=\"jetengine forms add new form button\">\n\n\n\n<p>Name a form and delete unnecessary fields built by default. Currently, we delete all the fields to create a new form from scratch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first field we add is a <strong>Text Field <\/strong>for the parent object name. Fill in the needed fields and remember to fill in the <strong>Name <\/strong>field appropriately, separate words with the \u201c-\u201d and \u201c_\u201d symbols, and use only lowercase Latin letters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Click the \u201c<strong>Apply Changes<\/strong>\u201d button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/crocoblock.com\/knowledge-base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/text-field-for-adding-new-parent-full.png\" alt=\"text field for adding new parent\">\n\n\n\n<p>The following field will serve as a selector for child items, so we add a <strong>Checkboxes Field<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the field adjusting, focus on the <strong>Fill Options From<\/strong> and <strong>Post Type <\/strong>fields. Here you should select the correct source, the child post type. Once all the fields are set accordingly, push the \u201c<strong>Apply Changes<\/strong>\u201d button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/crocoblock.com\/knowledge-base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/checkboxes-field-for-adding-new-parent-full.png\" alt=\"checkboxes field for adding new parent\">\n\n\n\n<p>The last vital step of the form is <strong>Submit Button<\/strong>. Push the \u201c<strong>Add<\/strong> <strong>Submit Button<\/strong>\u201d to place the mentioned button at the end of the form. Remember to place the <strong>Insert\/Update Post<\/strong> action first, as it is essential to initially insert a post and then proceed to the following post-submit actions.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Press the pencil-shaped button next to the <strong>Send Email <\/strong>action to edit it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Select the \u201cInsert\/Update Post\u201d <strong>Type <\/strong>and define the parent post type as the <strong>Post Type<\/strong>. Set the <strong>Post Status <\/strong>to \u201cPublished\u201d and head to the <strong>Fields Map<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The displayed fields refer to those fields you have added to the form. The <strong>Text Field <\/strong>of yours should be connected to the \u201cPost Title\u201d and the following <strong>Checkboxes Field <\/strong>left with the default option.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hit the \u201c<strong>Apply Changes<\/strong>\u201d button to save the result, and let\u2019s add one more action by pressing the \u201c<strong>Add Notification<\/strong>\u201d button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/crocoblock.com\/knowledge-base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/insert-update-post-submit-action-in-add-new-parent-form-full.png\" alt=\"insert update post submit action in add new parent form\">\n\n\n\n<p>This time we select the \u201cConnect Relation Items\u201d as the <strong>Type<\/strong>, set the needed <strong>Relation<\/strong>, choose the corresponding <strong>Parent Item ID <\/strong>and <strong>Child Item ID<\/strong>, and leave the <strong>Update Context <\/strong>field empty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t forget to press the \u201c<strong>Apply Changes<\/strong>\u201d button and head to the <strong>Messages Settings <\/strong>tab to alter some of the notifications shown to the user.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/crocoblock.com\/knowledge-base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/connect-relation-items-post-submit-action-in-add-new-parent-form-full.png\" alt=\"connect relation items post submit action in add new parent form\">\n\n\n\n<p>The final step here is to save the form, so push the \u201c<strong>Publish<\/strong>\u201d button and head to the page where the form will be located.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Place a <strong>Form <\/strong>widget on the page, pick the \u201cJetEngine\u201d option in the <strong>Choose Provider<\/strong> drop-down and fill in the <strong>Select form <\/strong>field with the form\u2019s name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Set up the fields and form styles, and press the \u201c<strong>Update\/Publish<\/strong>\u201d button to save the page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/crocoblock.com\/knowledge-base\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/add-new-parent-form-in-elementor-full.png\" alt=\"add new parent form in elementor\">\n\n\n\n<p>Check the front-end result. You can fill in the form with a title and relate some items to it.
