The Post expiration period<\/em> add-on helps you to display a new post added with a front-end form for a limited amount of time. The add-on can also change the post status to Draft<\/strong> or add it to Trash<\/strong>. The expiration period can be added via the JetFormBuilder<\/em> form or JetEngine<\/em> form (legacy) and set in the Insert\/Update Post notification settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Install the Post Expiration Period Add-On<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Let us first install the add-on to the website. Go to the JetEngine > JetEngine > External Modules<\/em><\/strong> tab, enable the Post expiration period <\/strong>toggle, and wait until the add-on is installed and activated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\"jetengine\n\n\n\n

Alternatively, you can download the add-on manually from the DevTools page<\/strong><\/a> by clicking the \u201cDownload\u201d<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then, go to the WordPress Dashboard > Plugins > Add New <\/em><\/strong>tab, press the \u201cUpload Plugin\u201d <\/strong>button, and install and activate the plugin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Create a Form<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Create a JetFormBuilder form<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

After installing the add-on, we can create a JetFormBuilder<\/em> form in which we can set up the expiration period for a new post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Go to JetFormBuilder > Add New<\/em><\/strong> to create a new form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After adding the needed form fields, we can configure the \u201cInsert\/Update Post\u201d Post Submit Action<\/strong>. Add the action, and then click the pencil icon<\/strong> to edit it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After selecting the Post Type<\/strong> and Status<\/strong> with which a post is submitted and mapping the fields<\/strong>, we can turn on the Enable expiration period<\/strong> toggle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After switching on the toggle, additional settings appear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Expiration period<\/strong> field, you can insert the number of days after which the post should change its post status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next setting is the Expiration action<\/strong>, which defines whether the post should be set to \u201cDraft\u201d or \u201cTrash\u201d status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Note that the Post expiration period<\/em> add-on functionality is not developed to work for updating posts, only for creating.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Now, the form can be saved by clicking the \u201cPublish\/Update\u201d <\/strong>button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To output the form on the front end, we added the JetForm<\/strong> widget (in Elementor) or Form<\/strong> block (in Gutenberg) to the page and saved it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then, we submitted the form on the front end to add a new post and check how the expiration period add-on works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A new post was successfully published in the post type we selected in the form Post Submit Action<\/strong> settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After 24 hours, the post obtained the Trash<\/strong> status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Create a JetEngine Form<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Since the expiration period can be set via the JetEngine<\/em> form, you should create one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you set up a form for creating posts, proceed to the Insert\/Update Post <\/strong>Notification and press to edit it. Check the box in the Enable expiration period<\/strong> block, and another two blocks will appear. In the Expiration period<\/strong>, <\/strong>enter the required number of days and choose where you want to move posts in the Expiration action <\/strong>radio \u2013 to Trash<\/strong> or Draft<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\"enable\n\n\n

This option does not work with forms for updating posts, only for creating. Also, the post expiration period feature will work only for the newly-created posts with the form, and the old posts will remain unchanged.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

After setting the form up, don\u2019t forget to hit \u201cApply Changes\u201d <\/strong>and update the form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Add the form with the post expiration period to the page on the front end. To see the add-on in action, we have created a new post with the JetEngine form and set it up to move to Trash<\/strong> with an expiration of one day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\"published\n\n\n\n

As we can see, the post has moved to the trash within 24 hours after creation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\"post\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Create Admin Columns<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To display the post expiration date, you could add an Admin Column<\/strong><\/a> to the custom post type<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Go to the JetEngine > Post Types<\/em><\/strong> section in the WP Dashboard and open the CPT you want to work with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scroll the page down to the Admin Columns<\/strong> block. Click the \u201cAdd New<\/strong>\u201d button and fill in the fields with appropriate data: <\/p>\n\n\n\n
