Create Custom Query<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Proceed to WordPress Dashboard > JetEngine > Query Builder<\/em><\/strong> and create a new query by clicking the \u201cAdd New<\/strong>\u201d button. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Write the Name <\/strong>of the custom query and select the needed Query Type<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the provided example, we want to display a list of product categories ordered by a term name to override the default order by the created date. It means that a custom query can be used if the order of items needs to be altered in the filter by custom taxonomy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Therefore, we select a \u201cTerms Query\u201d Query Type<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then, the \u201cProduct categories\u201d option is picked as a Taxonomy<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Order By <\/strong>field, we choose the \u201cName\u201d option and set the ascending \u201cFrom lowest to highest values\u201d Order<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next, we head to the Include\/Exclude <\/strong>tab and set the ID of the \u201cUncategorized\u201d category in the Exclude <\/strong>field so this category will not be shown in our filter later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At this point, the query can be saved to be later used in the filter. To do so, press the \u201cAdd Query<\/strong>\u201d button.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Create Filter with Query Builder Source<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Go to WordPress Dashboard > JetSmartFilters > Add New<\/em><\/strong> to create a filter for a \u201cTerms\u201d Query<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Select a Filter Type<\/strong>: \u201cRadio<\/a>,\u201d \u201cCheckbox<\/a>,\u201d or \u201cSelect<\/a>.\u201d and pick a \u201cJetEngine Query Builder\u201d Data Source<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Select Query <\/strong>field, a custom query from Query Builder<\/strong> from which the filter options are filled should be chosen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the described case, a previously created \u201cTerms\u201d Query <\/strong>with the terms order is picked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Property to get Value from<\/strong> defines the property based on which the filtering is performed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the used query, the ID of the term is the value. You can go back to the custom query in the Query Builder<\/strong> and click the \u201cPreview results<\/strong>\u201d button to see how the ID property of the term is named. In the described case, it\u2019s \u201cterm_id.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Property to get Label from<\/strong> is what a user sees on the front end as a label of an option. According to the described case, the field containing the term\u2019s name is \u201cname\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lastly, the Query Variable<\/strong> should contain the taxonomy to filter by. It can be selected by pressing the \u201cDynamic Tag<\/strong>\u201d button next to the field. Open a page or a template in a preferred editor. Now, we will use Elementor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Add a filter widget to the editing area (corresponding to the one that you built earlier). In our case, it\u2019s a Checkboxes Filter <\/strong>widget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pick the just-built filter in the Select filter <\/strong>field and pick the needed provider in the This filter for <\/strong>field. In this case, we select \u201cJetEngine\u201d as the provider because we will filter the Listing Grid<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, we also add a Listing Grid<\/strong><\/a> widget to the page and adjust it as needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
