Build a Filter<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To begin, let\u2019s create a filter. To do so, follow the WordPress Dashboard > <\/em><\/strong>Smart Filters<\/em><\/strong> > Add New <\/em><\/strong>path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Complete the Filter Name <\/strong>and select either the \u201cCheckboxes list<\/a>\u201d or \u201cRadio<\/a>\u201d Filter Type<\/strong>, as the \u201cCollapsible\u201d feature can be implemented only with these two types.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the described case, we will use the \u201cCheckboxes list\u201d Filter Type<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The following step is selecting the Data Source<\/strong><\/a>. Pick the \u201cTaxonomies\u201d option and determine the Taxonomy <\/strong>items that will be used as filter items.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adjust the following fields as needed and activate the Group terms by parents <\/strong>toggle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once the toggle is activated, the Collapsible <\/strong>toggle appears. Enable it as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Proceed to the Filter Labels <\/strong>section and complete the Filter Label <\/strong>and Active Filter Label <\/strong>if desired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whenever the filter is ready, push the \u201cUpdate<\/strong>\u201d button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mind that the taxonomies connected to the filter should have parent and child terms connected to the posts so the filter works properly.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Put Filter on the Page<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Go to the page editor of your choice to add the filter on the desired page. It can be the Block editor (Gutenberg,) Elementor, or Bricks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We will use Gutenberg, but the customization process will be the same for all the builders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Place the filter block\/widget\/element on the page. In our case, it is the Checkboxes<\/strong> <\/strong>block.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Select the filter in the namesake field and define the provider in the This filter for <\/strong>drop-down menu. Adjust the following filter settings as needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To style the filter, you can use the JetStyleManager<\/em><\/a> <\/em>plugin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Add the provider block, widget, or element on the page if you haven\u2019t done it yet, and customize the page according to your needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Press the \u201cPublish\/Update<\/strong>\u201d button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Open the front-end view of the page to check the result. At first, we see only the parent categories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, a \u201cplus\u201d icon will be displayed next to the terms that contain child terms. Click on it to expand the hidden terms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, if we select one of the options, the list of its child categories will expand as well. Now, they can be selected in the filter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
