In this tutorial, we consider configuring the JetSmartFilters<\/em> Default Value<\/strong> settings in the Radio Filter<\/strong><\/a>, Select Filter<\/strong><\/a>, Date Range Filter<\/strong><\/a>, and Checkboxes Filter<\/strong><\/a>. Also, this setting is available for the Range Filter<\/strong><\/a>, Checkbox Range Filter<\/strong><\/a>, Date Period Filter<\/strong><\/a>, Rating Filter<\/strong><\/a>, Alphabet Filter<\/strong><\/a>, Search Filter<\/strong><\/a>, and Visual Filter<\/strong><\/a>, which allow setting the predefined values as the initial state and display the predefined data on the front end via the appropriate widgets, blocks, and elements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Single-Select Filters<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This tutorial section covers the Radio Filter<\/strong>, Select Filter<\/strong>, and Date Range Filter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Radio Filter<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

First, move to the WordPress Dashboard > Smart Filters<\/em><\/strong> tab and add a new filter or open a previously created one. Then, insert the Filter Name<\/strong>, tick the “Radio” Filter Type<\/strong>, and set the needed Data Source<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this case, we intend to allow selection of the CPT<\/strong> posts that contain the “Yes” value in the Hot deals <\/strong>field. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We choose the “Custom Fields” option from the drop-down list. In the Custom Field Key<\/strong>, we type the ID of the meta field (here, “_hot-deals”). Then, we enable the Get Choices From Field<\/strong> Data<\/strong> toggle and select the needed plugin (here, the “JetEngine” option) from the Field Source Plugin<\/strong> drop-down menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scroll down the filter\u2019s settings tab and type the ID of the meta field (here, “_hot-deals”) in the Query Variable<\/strong> field. Select the “Equals (=)” option from the Comparison operator<\/strong> drop-down menu. Then, enable the Default Filter Value<\/strong> toggle and type the needed value of the meta field (here, the “Yes” text).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Things to know<\/div>

The Default Filter Value<\/strong> field is a case-sensitive field.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Fill in the Filter Label<\/strong> and Active Filter Label<\/strong> fields (optionally).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Press the “Update<\/strong>” button to save the filter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next, move to the page where the filter is added, adjust its settings, and observe how it works on the front end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In our case, since the “Yes” value is present in the filter\u2019s settings, the listing shows all villas that have the “Yes” value set in the corresponding meta field. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Select Filter<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In this section, we describe how to filter CPT<\/strong> posts by taxonomies and meta fields<\/a>. Since in this tutorial we focus on setting the Default Values<\/strong> while building queries, the issues on configuring the filter\u2019s settings are described in the corresponding tutorials, links to which are presented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Configure settings to filter taxonomies<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

First, move to the WordPress Dashboard > Smart Filters<\/em><\/strong> tab and add a new filter or open a previously created one. Here, insert the Filter Name<\/strong>, choose the “Select” Filter Type<\/strong>, and set the needed Data Source<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then, scroll the page down and enable the Use Default Filter Value<\/strong> toggle. Next, insert the needed default value in the appeared Default Filter Value<\/strong> field. For example, since here we set the “Taxonomies” Data Source<\/strong> and specified the “Property Type” Taxonomy<\/strong>, in the Default Filter Value<\/strong> field we type the “Villa” text referring to the corresponding term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once the changes are saved, move to a page intended to add the filter. Here, we recommend dividing the page into two columns and inserting the filter into the first one and the Listing Grid<\/strong><\/a> widget with posts to the second column. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then, move to the front end and check the result. Here, the Select Filter<\/strong> added to the listing shows the villas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Configure settings to filter meta field data<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In addition, you can build a filter to display data from CPT<\/strong> posts. In this case, we configure the following settings while creating the filter:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Date Range Filter<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Add a new Date Range Filter<\/strong> or open a previously created one. Insert the Filter Name<\/strong>, select the “Date Range” Filter Type<\/strong>, and set the needed Data Source<\/strong>. Then, specify the “Meta Date” option in the Filter by<\/strong> drop-down list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then, insert the needed Date Format<\/strong>: here, we type the “mm\/dd\/yy” text to display month, day, and year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Date Formats<\/strong> available are shown on the page below the Available date range<\/strong> field as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

d<\/strong> – day of month; dd<\/strong> – day of month with leading zero; D<\/strong> – short day name; DD<\/strong> – full day name;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

m – month of year; mm<\/strong> – month of year with leading zero; M<\/strong> – short month name; MM<\/strong> – full month name;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

y<\/strong> – year (two digit); yy<\/strong> – year (four digit).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next, since we intend to make only future dates available, we choose the “Future dates” Available date range<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then, scroll the page down and insert the field keys into the Query Variable<\/strong> field. Here, we insert the meta field Name\/ID<\/strong> value of the corresponding meta field (that refers to the name field stored in the database) \u4e00 “check_in_check_out” text.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the last stage, enable the Use Default Filter Value<\/strong> toggle and insert the needed default value in the appeared Default Filter Value<\/strong> field (here we set the date period from July 01, 2026, to December 31, 2026) and type this period in the “yy.m.d” date format as follows: “2026.7.1-2026.12.31”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We consider the case of displaying the items with the predefined Custom Fields<\/strong><\/a> (the “Wi-Fi” Facilities<\/strong>, in this tutorial).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In particular, we complete the Filter Name <\/strong>field (“Checkboxes Facilities”), pick the “Checkboxes list” Filter Type<\/strong>, select the “Custom Fields” option in the Data Source<\/strong> drop-down menu, and select the necessary Custom Field Key<\/strong> (in our case, “_facilities”).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then, scroll the page down and insert the field keys into the Query Variable<\/strong> field. Here, we insert the meta field Name\/ID<\/strong> value of the corresponding meta field (that refers to the name field stored in the database) \u4e00 “_facilities” text.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the last stage, enable the Use Default Filter Value<\/strong> toggle and insert the required default value in the appeared Default Filter Value<\/strong> field (here we set “Wi-Fi”).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next, add the filter to a page and configure its settings. We select the previously created filter (“Checkboxes Facilities”) in the Select filter<\/strong> field and set the “Page reload” or “Mixed” Apply type<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Set the Default Value Using the URL Parameters<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

First, create the Checkboxes<\/strong> filter, add the Filter Name<\/strong> (“URL_checkbox”) with the Use Default Filter Value<\/strong> toggle disabled. Here, we create the Checkboxes <\/strong>filter to display posts with the needed taxonomy (the “Property Type” Taxonomy<\/strong> of the “Property” CPT<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next, we build an archive template page<\/a> for CPT<\/strong> posts (the “Property” CPT<\/strong>), divide it into two columns, insert the filter into the left one, and the Listing Grid <\/strong>widget into the second column. Then, we specified the previously created filter (“URL_checkbox”) in the Select filter<\/strong> field and set the “Page reload” or “Mixed” Apply type<\/strong>. Adjust the other Checkboxes Filter<\/strong> and the Listing Grid <\/strong>widget settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then, publish the page, go to the front-end, and copy the page\u2019s URL after applying the filter. In particular, since we intend to display the CPT<\/strong> posts with the “Bungalow” Taxonomy<\/strong>, we tick this option in the filter and get the next URL: <\/p>\n\n\n\n
