Creating a Query<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To query the Listing Grid<\/strong> by the \u201cDate\u201d meta field, you can use relative formats<\/a> located in the section with the same name. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For instance, we use a Custom Post Type<\/strong> \u201cEvents\u201d that has a meta field of a \u201cDate\u201d Field type<\/strong> dubbed \u201cevent-date.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

Ensure the field has the Save as timestamp<\/strong> toggle activated in the Meta fields<\/strong> settings of the selected CPT<\/strong> (WordPress Dashboard > JetEngine > Post Types<\/i><\/strong>) so the query will work.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

To display only future or past events, the query should be built in WordPress Dashboard > JetEngine > Query Builder<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Queries List <\/strong>directory, click the \u201cAdd New<\/strong>\u201d button to open the editing area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the General Settings<\/strong> section, complete the Name <\/strong>field and set the \u201cPosts\u201d Query Type<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then, in the following Posts Query <\/strong>section, head to the General <\/strong>tab and pick the Post Type <\/strong>you are working with. It should be the same as the Listing source<\/strong> set during the creation of a Listing item<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The following settings vary on the type of content you want to display. So, move on to the needed part of the article.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Future Events<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To showcase future events, navigate to the Meta Query <\/strong>tab and press the \u201cAdd new<\/strong>\u201d button to access settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Complete the Field key\/name <\/strong>with the meta field value of a \u201cDate\u201d Field Type<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Select the \u201cGreater than\u201d Compare <\/strong>operator and press the \u201cDynamic Tag<\/strong>\u201d button next to the Value <\/strong>field to open the options list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the variants, find and press the \u201cToday\u201d option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Set the \u201cTimestamp\u201d as the Type <\/strong>and complete the Clause name<\/strong> with a desired value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Return to the General <\/strong>tab. Press the \u201cAdd new sorting parameter<\/strong>\u201d button in the Order & Order By <\/strong>section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Complete the Order By <\/strong>field with an \u201cOrder by meta clause\u201d option. Select the Meta Clause <\/strong>created earlier and choose the needed Order<\/strong>: \u201cFrom lowest to highlest values\u201d or \u201cFrom highest to lowest values.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Press the \u201cAdd\/Update Query<\/strong>\u201d button to save the result.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Past Events<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The procedure is similar to the one for future events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Meta Query <\/strong>tab, complete the Field key\/name <\/strong>with the meta field value of the \u201cDate\u201d Field Type<\/strong>. Select the \u201cLess than\u201d Compare <\/strong>operator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Find and pick the \u201cToday\u201d option by hitting the \u201cDynamic Tags<\/strong>\u201d button next to the Value <\/strong>field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Set the \u201cTimestamp\u201d Type <\/strong>and complete the Clause name <\/strong>with a desired value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Return to the General <\/strong>tab and press the \u201cAdd new editing parameter<\/strong>\u201d in the Order & Order By <\/strong>section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then, pick the \u201cOrder by meta clause\u201d Order By <\/strong>option, select the Meta Clause <\/strong>by its name, and choose the needed Order<\/strong> option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Save the query by clicking the \u201cAdd\/Update Query<\/strong>\u201d button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Posts of the Previous Month<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To build the query for the previous month’s posts, head to the Date Query <\/strong>tab and hit the \u201cAdd new<\/strong>\u201d button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Complete the After <\/strong>field with the \u201cfirst day of previous month midnight\u201d value and Before <\/strong>with the \u201cfirst day of this month midnight\u201d value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Set the \u201cEqual\u201d Compare <\/strong>operator and pick the \u201cPost Date\u201d option as Column<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019t forget to save the query by pressing the \u201cAdd\/Update Query<\/strong>\u201d button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To finalize, go to the page editor and place the Listing Grid <\/strong>widget <\/strong>there if this wasn\u2019t done before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then, in the Listing Grid <\/strong>widget\u2019s Content <\/strong>settings, open the Custom Query <\/strong>tab and activate the Use Custom Query <\/strong>toggle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pick the needed option in the Custom Query <\/strong>field. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For instance, we have added three Listing Grids<\/strong>. Two of them are identical and show future and past events. They display the \u201cevent-date\u201d meta field data. The third Listing Grid<\/strong> is slightly different. Instead of showing the \u201cevent-date,\u201d it shows the date when the post was published.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For every Listing Grid<\/strong>, a different query is used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Click the \u201cPublish\/Update<\/strong>\u201d button to save the changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Timezone Sync<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If the events are displayed incorrectly (for example, future events appear as past ones or vice versa), the issue may be related to timezone differences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This can happen when the website uses one timezone, while the user operates in another timezone. In such cases, the \u201cToday\u201d dynamic value is calculated based on the website\u2019s timezone, not the user\u2019s local time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For instance, if the current time is 22:00 in a UTC-4 timezone, it may already be considered the next day in the UTC+0 zone (as it is 02:00). As a result, events scheduled for \u201ctoday\u201d may be treated as future events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To fix this, go to WordPress Dashboard > Settings > General <\/em><\/strong>and find the Timezone <\/strong>field. Ensure the selected value matches your timezone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Result on the Front End<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Check the result on the front page. The displayed content will differ depending on the query you have applied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you build a future events query, it will only show events where the \u201cDate\u201d meta field is set to the day after \u201cToday.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For this tutorial, we created a future events query on September 27, 2023, so it displays events occurring after that date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If the past events query is selected as Custom Query<\/strong>, it will display only events that have already taken place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
